World’s fastest CPU: Clocked an amazing 128 gigaFLOPS!

Do you know that Fujitsu has just created the world’s fastest CPU, capable of executing 128 billion calculations/instructions per second?

Yes, 128 billion calculations/instructions per second equals to 128 gigaFLOPS and that is super fast, more or less 2.5 x faster than Intel's! It is quite an achievement for Japan-based Fujitsu and certainly gave Intel a rude shock. :)

The bad news is that you won’t see Fujitsu’s super fast CPU (8-core SPARC64 VIIIfx Venus) in personal computers anytime soon. It is designed and built specifically for supercomputers. :( But hey, do you know that you can build your own super fast personal computer? ;)

Note:

Fujitsu revealed its super fast CPU at Fujitsu Forum 2009 and the breaking news was first reported by PC Watch (Japan).
