Mighty iPhone 3G S jailbroken at last. Here’s the easiest way to jailbreak it.

Do you know that you can easily unlock and jailbreak Apple’s awesome brand new iPhone 3G S with purplera1n? Videos included.

Mighty iPhone 3G S jailbroken at last. Here’s the easiest way to jailbreak it.

To the best of my knowledge, there are two noteworthy ways of unlocking and jailbreaking (don’t forget screwing up) iPhone 3G S as of time of writing:
  1. One via Dev-Team’s ultrasn0w and
  2. The other one via George Hotz’s purplera1n

I have been reading couple of reviews in the last few hours and now has come to the conclusion that the easiest and fastest way to unlock and jailbreak your brand new iPhone 3G S is by using the tools and following the steps provided by George Hotz. George Hortz’s jailbreak only requires:
  • Your iPhone 3G S of course (running 3.0 firmware)
  • A Windows (won’t run on Windows 7) laptop/computer
  • Latest installation of iTunes
  • Purplera1n, Freeze & Cydia apps (downloadable)

You may compare both iPhone 3G S unlocking/jailbreaking methods by watching the following videos. Choose the one that you feel you are comfortable with. The first one shown down below shows Dev-Team’s ultrasn0w. Good luck!

iPhone 3G S can make music videos. Here’s the world’s first iPhone 3G S music video

Take a look at the following music video, purportedly taken with Apple’s brand new darling, iPhone 3G S. Here’s the question, was it really shot entirely on an iPhone 3G S?

I don’t know but I have seen couple of videos taken with an iPhone 3G S before and based from what I have seen so far, the above video does have similar video characteristics. I’ll say that it was shot on an iPhone 3G S but only YouTube user BJSRmusic knows the whole truth but who cares, right?

You folks are still partying over the new iPhone, so let’s just enjoy the good vibes. :)

Blogger secretly developing Read More/Post Summary and Spam Prevention features

Do you know that Blogger is currently secretly developing Read More/Post Summary and Spam Prevention features?

Blogger secretly developing Read More/Post Summary and Spam Prevention features

I spent about 4 hours of my precious time removing spam and link bombs (most of them have links to some stupid Indian blogs/sites) from my blog comments couple of weeks ago. The whole exercise was very frustrating and I tweeted it straight to the attention of Blogger. Never thought that they would give me a reply but somebody did and here’s what Blogger Product Manager Siobhan Quinn has said in her unexpected reply:

Blogger secretly developing Read More/Post Summary and Spam Prevention features

As you can see, Blogger is currently developing on a new comment spam prevention feature. That’s great, really great since the existing feature (word verification) offers little help in combating spam. I have no idea what exactly they’re working on right now but I will ask Siobhan for the details right after I have posted this post. Whatever it is, I hope Blogger will consider integrating Akismet with Blogger, something like what JS-Kit has done for many satisfied bloggers. Hint! Hint!

I don’t know who discovered this first (possibly BlogDude) but I read it from BloggerBuster a few days back. It seems that Blogger is also secretly (also possibly) developing on a Read More/Post Summary feature. Take a look at the following conditional tag found on a as shown in the following screenshot:

Blogger secretly developing Read More/Post Summary and Spam Prevention features

Did you see that ‘data:post.hasJumpLink’ and ‘data:post.jumpText’ Blogger Layout tags?

Those are new and officially not documented anywhere in Blogger Help. I’m not exactly sure what those new tags are for but BloggerBuster is convinced that they’re for a Read More/Post Summary feature. If that is true, bloggers on Blogger may soon dump their buggy Read More/Post Summary hacks (I’m using one too, check it out on my homepage) and replace them with Blogger’s. Hopefully Siobhan will be able to shed some light on those new Blogger Layout tags. Please wait for her responses here on this blog, should be here in the next couple of days.

Stay tuned!

Think twice before buying a White iPhone 3G S. Here’s the reason why, you can see it overheating!

Do you know that Apple’s new iPhone, iPhone 3G S, inherits the same overheating problem previously faced by its predecessor, iPhone 3G? Shocking photos included.

Think twice before buying a White iPhone 3G S. Here’s the reason why, you can see it overheating!

Disappointing news and discoveries of overheating signs on Apple’s new iPhone 3G S are all over French tech blogs right now. Yes, somebody there has discovered that the hottest smartphone in the world today is really hot, literally. One iPhone 3G S user in his testimony said that his iPhone gets awfully hot whenever he uses GPS apps and/or power-hungry 3G apps. One day he noticed something funny on the back of his new White iPhone 3G S, a boxy reddish/pinkish (Engadget said brownish) tint that is apparently following the contours of the iPhone’s battery. Take a look at the following screenshots for a better picture.

Think twice before buying a White iPhone 3G S. Here’s the reason why, you can see it overheating!

The good news is that those visual signs of overheating are only visible on White iPhone 3G S phones. Those using Black iPhone 3G S phones reported nothing so far but many said that they felt the same burning heat on their new iPhones too.

What’s up, Apple? Haven’t you guys learned anything from past experience?

iPhone 3G S is a freakin’ Digital SLR camera. Here’s how to treat it like one.

Do you know that you should treat Apple’s latest iPhone, iPhone 3G S, like an expensive Digital SLR camera? Take a look at how PixelCorps treated their iPhone 3G S.

iPhone 3G S is a freakin’ Digital SLR camera. Here’s how to treat it like one.

I really don’t know what to make of it but when I first saw it, I thought PixelCorps has gone nuts. :)

Come on, I know iPhone 3G S more or less can take good videos (not great) but this is pretty ridiculous. Even though users can now upload videos straight to YouTube and MobileMe Gallery from their iPhones (available only on iPhone 3G S), that doesn’t mean that they can treat their new iPhones like they're some kind of expensive video cams. If you conjure up this kind of contraption to your own iPhone 3G S phone, your friends will have a field day laughing at you. [snicker snicker] :)

Oh well, if you’re wondering about that contraption used by PixelCorps as shown in the above screenshot. Wired has all the details:
…fashioned from a professional Red Rocks Micro shoulder mount (priced at anywhere up from $300 for the basic frame), a PED3 Auto iPhone dashboard mount and an LED light panel…

Note:

For the sake of your priceless sanity, please do not attempt to do this at home or in public.

Stop swooning and start protecting your new iPhone 3G S

Everybody’s swooning over Apple’s latest iPhone, iPhone 3G S, but I would like to ask the following question to those iPhone crooners and swooners; have you protected your new iPhone yet?

Stop swooning and ask; have you protected your new iPhone 3G S yet?

Yeah, I’m tired of reading ‘wonderful’ stories about Apple’s new iPhone. Some stories say iPhone 3G S takes awesome photos and there are those that say iPhone 3G S is much faster than Palm Pre (proven otherwise to a certain extent).

Arghhh… [shaking my head]

If you happen to be a proud owner of a brand new iPhone 3G S, let’s stop crooning and swooning over such stories for a while. Take a good look at your brand new iPhone and see if you have done enough to protect it. Hey, the least that you can do is to protect its screen from scratches and smudges with basic screen protectors (the iPhone shown in the following video is protected by Rocketfish).

If that is not enough for you, try those military-grade screen protectors and ZAGG’s invisibleSHIELD is a fine example. It is supposed to be scratch-proof and indestructible (torture test shown down below); even backed with a lifetime warranty.

Alright, my job is done. Let’s go back and read all those ‘wonderful’ iPhone stories, shall we? :)

Amazing, aren’t they!?

Special thanks to Flickr user mezzoblue for sharing them with us. His amazing photos gave me a shock at first but then I learned that his photos have been pre-enhanced with iPhoto (let’s just say that those photos have been photoshoped) beforehand. I wonder how his raw iPhone 3G S photos really look like before the enhancements. Hmm…

The funny thing is that BusinessInsider seems to have missed that little fact and thought that those photos were really raw iPhone 3G S photos, they even thought (sort of) that iPhone 3G S will be able steal market shares from Canon and Nikon after seeing those ‘amazing’ photos. What a joke… [snicker snicker]. :)

iPhone 3G S vs 3G: Speed Comparison Tests conducted on UK O2 carrier

Do you know that Apple’s latest sweetheart, iPhone 3G S, loads mobile applications faster than their old iPhone 3G? Speed comparison tests were conducted on UK/British O2 carrier and video of the whole tests included.

iPhone 3G S vs 3G: Speed Comparison Tests conducted on UK O2 carrier

YouTube user mikehellers has done his fellow Brits a huge favor earlier today. He ran a few side-by-side speed comparison tests on Apple’s new iPhone 3G S and their old iPhone 3G (both on British/UK O2 carrier), discovered a few interesting discoveries and recorded everything on a nice video (available on YouTube, shown down below).

Note:

His discoveries merely echo what those American iPhone geeks have discovered so far and yes, iPhone 3G S is definitely faster/better than iPhone 3G but I’m not going to buy those American ‘iPhone 3G S is faster than Palm Pre’ stories just yet. I’m still skeptical and my last post has shown that on the right carrier, Palm Pre can be faster/better than iPhone 3G S. I need to gather more info on this though, will share whatever I may discover in the future.

YouTube videos load faster on Sprint Palm Pre than AT&T iPhone 3G S

Do you know that YouTube videos load faster and look better on Sprint Palm Pre than on AT&T iPhone 3G S? Video included.

YouTube videos load faster on Sprint Palm Pre than AT&T iPhone 3G S

Pali Research ran a few tests earlier today, comparing 2 hot smartphones side by side. One is of course Apple’s new iPhone 3G S (AT&T) and the other one is Palm Pre (on Sprint). One of the tests as you’re about to see afterwards in the following video is to determine which smartphone has the best YouTube video loading time (even possibly which carrier has the best bandwidth). Let’s cut the chatter and enjoy the video down below.

As you can see, Pali Research discovered that YouTube videos seem to load much faster on Sprint Palm Pre. Not only it is faster than AT&T iPhone 3G S, Pali Research also discovered that the quality of video is better than those seen on AT&T iPhone 3G S.

Thought you iPhone geeks out there should know that. :)

iPhone 3G S torn down and disassembled

Would you like to learn how to tear down, disassemble and reassemble back Apple’s new iPhone 3G S?

iPhone 3G S torn down and disassembled

Oh my God! RapidRepair, the same people who gave you step-by-step Palm Pre disassembly and reassembly instructions couple of weeks ago has done another unthinkable thing. They managed to get their hands on Apple’s new iPhone 3G S and they did the same thing on the new smartphone. They have torn down and disassembled everything about Apple’s new iPhone, revealing intricate parts that have never been seen before!

Disassembly of new iPhone 3G S smartphones will void warranties!

Spam comments will get your blog penalized. Here’s the scary proof!

We all know that search engines do not like spam comments and love to penalize those that have them but have you seen the impact of their penalizations before? Scary proof included.

Spam comments will get your blog penalized. Here’s the scary proof!

SEOgadget was hit by a few nasty spam comments (shown down below) on June 3rd 2009 but those behind the blog didn’t know anything about them since they rely upon Akismet and it is supposed to filter out spam. Yes, this is a classic case of an Akismet fail whale (made famous by Twitter).

Spam comments will get your blog penalized. Here’s the scary proof!

One of SEOgadget’s authors (Richard Baxter) stumbled upon those spam comments after discovering 4.52% decrease in traffic in the first half of June 2009. It seems that Google has penalized SEOgadget and the blog has lost precious traffic from Google. Just take a look at the following scary screenshot (page-level stats)! That’s a massive drop in traffic!

Spam comments will get your blog penalized. Here’s the scary proof!

SEOgadget did the right thing, they removed those spam comments on June 15th and traffic flowed back to the blog a day after the removal (look at that spike on the above screenshot). Take note that SEOgadget did not submit reconsideration requests to Google. The whole thing was on auto-pilot! That’s really fast and it really shows that Google is watching our every little steps! Whoa!

I learned a lot from SEOgadget’s experience and the whole thing worries me deep inside and I have this mysterious question (the same question is bugging SEOgadget) lingering in my mind right now. What really triggers SEOgadget’s penalization?

Spam comments, the ‘nofollow’ links of spam comment authors (bear in mind that we have mass confusions on PageRank Sculpting at the moment) or both?

Note:

This blog apparently has been penalized for the very same reason but I haven’t done anything to fix it (example: removal of spam comments) yet. Google seems to have a new algorithm these days and I need time to crunch all the details. Google Webmaster Central is not really helpful right now, looks like I’ll be reading Matt Cutt’s posts in the next few days.

iPhone 3G S takes poor videos

Do you know that Apple’s new iPhone 3G S takes poor videos? An example of a video taken with an iPhone 3G S included.

iPhone 3G S takes poor videos

Bear in mind that iPhone 3G S only has a 3-megapixel camera and you can only shoot 30-fps VGA videos with the new iPhone. So please, do not expect much. :)

Was it taken with an iPhone 3G S?

I don’t know but MobileCrunch (one of TechCrunch’s many cahoots and cronies) thinks so. Here’s what they said about the above video:
… looks pretty good to us. It’s not going to dethrone our normal video go-tos, but the quality seems quite a bit better than what we’ve seen out of the unofficial, jailbreak-only iPhone apps…

I’m not really impressed since my old Nokia N95 can take better videos if I go by what I have seen so far but that grainy iPhone 3G S video comes from YouTube (320 x 240: standard), so I will reserve my comments for the time being.

Updated on June 19th 2009 11:45 AM:

Found another video purportedly taken with an iPhone 3G S, the first to have a high quality version on YouTube. The first one shown down below is a YouTube standard while the one below it is the high-quality version. If it’s really taken with an iPhone 3G S, then the quality of the video is not that bad at all. It's not great but a good quality video nonetheless.
