Microsoft to lay off 15,000 employees on January 15

Microsoft will lay off 15,000 employees worldwide on January 15th 2009, roughly two weeks from today. That’s 17% of their global workforce!

What a way to start the New Year! Bang! And suddenly we have reports saying that Microsoft will sack 15,000 employees worldwide on January 15th 2009!

I don’t know whether it’s true or not but rumors of Microsoft’s massive layoff seem to originate from within the walls of Microsoft itself and they have been circulating around in the last few months. Today, those rumors turned into an awful fact. Apparently, Microsoft employees have been told that their company will sack employees in a massive scale soon. 15,000 employees worldwide to be exact!

Microsoft has about 90,000 employees worldwide. That 15,000 figure is more or less 17% of their existing global workforce. Hey, that can’t be right!?

15,000 is a huge figure! Microsoft can’t be serious!?
