Preloaded movies on Dell computers? Starting with Iron Man?

I’m a big fan of Dell computers and earlier today I discovered something very interesting indeed. Dell computers from now on will have preloaded movies starting with Iron Man!

Andrew Wallenstein from THR (The Hollywood Reporter) said that Dell has big plans with their preloaded movies, stating:
…PC manufacturer Dell and Paramount Pictures are opening a new front in digital distribution Tuesday with an offering allowing consumers to order "Iron Man" preloaded into newly purchased computers…

…The offering is the first step Dell is taking toward setting up a broader digital content storefront that could create significant competition for Apple's dominant iTunes Store…

So, Dell wants to steal market shares from Apple’s iTunes. Great, it’s about time too! A lot of people are sick and tired of Apple’s dominance anyway and I wish Dell all the best. It’s not going to be easy but it is also not impossible to steal market shares from Apple.

Good luck, Dell!

Unfortunately, not everybody is impressed with Dell’s latest offering. MG Siegler for an example considered Dell’s partnership with Paramount Pictures as futile.
Will this boost PC sales? No. Will this boost digital film sales? No. Is this pretty much just a pointless promotion that will soon fade? Yes.

Well, perhaps MG Siegler is right but let’s not be so damn skeptical about it. Wait and see how it goes in the next couple of months. :-)
