Bad news! eBay has acquired StumbleUpon for $75 million!

I have disappointing news for those hoping that Google will take ownership of StumbleUpon. I’m afraid it is eBay that has successfully acquired StumbleUpon for a whopping $75 million in cash. The acquisition has been confirmed by Nick Gonzalez from TechCrunch earlier today.

I must say that I’m disappointed with the news of the acquisition. I failed to understand why eBay wants to acquire StumbleUpon in the first place. eBay is all about commerce, in another word, eBay is all about making money while StumbleUpon is just a social bookmarking site.

What the hell does a commercial entity such as eBay wants to do with StumbleUpon!?

Nick quoted the following statement from eBay:
…goal of pioneering new communities based on commerce and sustained by trust…

Yeah right! There goes StumbleUpon, going down the drain. I foresee a very bad future for StumbleUpon and their Stumblers. Expect to see mass commercialization of StumbleUpon in the near future.

I’m not happy at all! :-)
