Nokia 6788 is no iPhone-killer but it is quite special to Nokia since it is their first TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) device. I don’t blame you if you’ve never heard of such mobile telephony standard before. TD-SCDMA is better known in China since those Chinese people puke on western mobile technology and they proudly developed and embraced TD-SCDMA as their national 3G mobile telephony standard.
Nokia 6788, Nokia’s first TD-SCDMA phone goes to China. Bye-bye western capitalists!
That announcement was made years ago and today I discovered that Nokia has paid much attention to the needs of the Chinese people. Nokia 6788 is testament to Nokia’s effort, the end result of their close partnership with China Mobile (world’s largest mobile operator).
Nokia 6788 will hit Chinese shelves at the end of this year and it boasts of having the following features:
- Runs on Symbian S60
- Have a 2.8” QVGA LCD display screen, 5-megapixel camera (Carl Zeiss Tessar lens) and a GPS receiver (supports A-GPS)
- Comes with 4GB of onboard memory
- Supports high-speed TD/HSDPA connectivity
Well, looks like things are looking really great for China right now and I consider this whole thing as good news for other Asian countries too. The Sleeping Dragon has truly awakened! Go China! :)
